Dextran sulfate sodium salt (DSS) is a polymer of dehydrated glucose with a molecular weight of approximately 4500-5500. It inhibits complement and coagulation pathways, belonging to the glycosaminoglycans (GAG) family. This compound functions as an anticoagulant, antiviral, and anti-lipemic agent, and can prevent HIV-1 virus adsorption to host cells, NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity, and instant blood-mediated inflammatory reaction (IBMIR).
